Breakpoint Detection Using Covariance Propagation
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a novel statistical approach for detecting breakpoints from chain encoded digital arcs. An arc point is declared as a breakpoint if the estimated orientations of the two fitted lines of the two arc segments immediately to the right and left of the arc point are significantly statistically different. The major contributions of this research include developing a method for analytically estimating the covariance matrix of the fitted line parameters and proposing a perturbation model to characterize the perturbation associated with each arc point.

Detection of abl/bcr Fusion Gene in Patients Affected by Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia by Dual-Colour Interphase Fluorescence in situ Hybridisation
Conventional cytogenetic is the standard technique for detection of Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Evaluation of abelson murine leukemia/breakpoint cluster region (abl/bcr) fusion using dual-colour fluorescence in situ hybridization (D-FISH) is an alternative approach allowing rapid and reliable detection of the disease. We employed the technique of interphase D...
متن کاملMonitoring Forest Dynamics in the Andean Amazon: The Applicability of Breakpoint Detection Methods Using Landsat Time-Series and Genetic Algorithms
The Andean Amazon is an endangered biodiversity hot spot but its forest dynamics are less studied than those of the Amazon lowland and forests from middle or high latitudes. This is because its landscape variability, complex topography and cloudy conditions constitute a challenging environment for any remote-sensing assessment. Breakpoint detection with Landsat time-series data is an establishe...
متن کاملExamining the Temporal Evolution of Propagated Delays at Individual Airports: Case Studies
Delay propagation is a well-known phenomenon within the global air transportation system. Specifically, because of equipment and crew connectivity, a flight delayed early in the day can induce delays to multiple flights later in the day. In this paper we investigate this phenomenon by developing a statistical model that predicts the average flight delay after a given breakpoint time b, based on...
متن کاملRAPID COMMUNICATION The t(15;17) Breakpoint in Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia Cluster Within Two Different Sites of the myl Gene: Targets for the Detection of Minimal Residual Disease by the Polymerase Chain Reaction
The retinoic acid receptor a (RARa) and the my1 gene are involved in the translocation breakpoint t(15;17)(q22;q21) in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). The majority of the breakpoint sites have been mapped within the second intron of the RARa gene; however, the breakpoint sites on the my1 gene are variable. Using primer sets derived from exon 2 or exon 3 of the RARa gene and a primer derived...
متن کاملBayesian Inference for Structured Spike and Slab Priors
Sparse signal recovery addresses the problem of solving underdetermined linear inverse problems subject to a sparsity constraint. We propose a novel prior formulation, the structured spike and slab prior, which allows to incorporate a priori knowledge of the sparsity pattern by imposing a spatial Gaussian process on the spike and slab probabilities. Thus, prior information on the structure of t...
